As manager of Novasite
Pharmaceuticals Flow Cytometry Lab, Andrew Beernink was responsible for the operation and maintenance a
MoFlo 4-laser cell sorter, a UV-equipped CyAn analyzer, and a single-laser
FACSort. His experience in flow has offered him the opportunity to consult and
teach at several San Diego Biotechs, and to perform many esoteric flow
procedures and techniques, such as dose-response by Ca2+ mobilization; simultaneous functional (Ca2+) analysis and sorting of
multiple populations of cells; sorting of GFP expressing cells, for use in
fluorescent protein & FRET experiments; and assay development for multicolor
functional & toxicity experiments. Andrew holds a BS from UCSD in Biochemistry
and Cell Biology and has been trained in Advanced flow at the Los Alamos Course,
and on instruments from all 3 of the major flow manufacturers. He is
experienced in training flow operators, in laser safety, and is knowledgeable in
solid state lasers, having built a diode laser module for use in 4-laser
experiments with proprietary fluorochromes. Andrew has moved now to
applications Specialist for Beckman Coulter on the MoFlo and Cyan. Andrew
has prepared our Apoptosis course and is an excellent resource in these
applications. We are extremely excited to count
Andrew among our excellent teaching talent!! Andrew can be reached at
