 Summary:

Under the direction of the laboratory manager and laboratory director, the laboratory supervisor ensures adequate performance of laboratory procedures including: overseeing laboratory personnel in the performance of routine processing of bone marrow, peripheral blood, and tissue biopsies; overseeing laboratory personnel in the performance of antibody staining and flow analysis of samples; resolving problems identified by laboratory personnel.  The laboratory supervisor also reports problem cases and/or abnormal findings to the lab director; establishes, implements and monitors quality control programs; evaluates and implements new laboratory technology and maintains personnel documentation.  The laboratory supervisor must also be able to present data and/or information across all levels including the lab, department, division and institution.

 Essential Duties:

Includes but is not limited to:

Oversees laboratory personnel in the performance of routine antibody and morphological staining of all specimen types.

Oversees laboratory personnel in the performance of accurate flow cytometry analysis of all samples.

Reports any problem cases and/or abnormal findings to the laboratory director to ensure timely resolution and/or follow up.

Resolves problems identified by laboratory personnel concerning individual cases, tests performed, equipment and supplies.

Orders or oversees supplies used by the laboratory staff in order to maintain sufficient inventory.

Establishes, implements, and monitors quality control programs to ensure optimal performance of laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.

Trains or oversees training for laboratory personnel to properly perform duties of the job.

Monitors the preparation of solutions and reagents for laboratory procedures.

Monitors laboratory log books, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts, etc., to ensure quality assurance of specimens.

Monitors the performance of various housekeeping and/or maintenance tasks to keep the laboratory and equipment in clean and operable condition.

Evaluates and implements new laboratory technology to be applied to laboratory procedures.

Identifies need and develops recommendations for improvement in laboratory equipment and physical layout of laboratory.

Participates in defining department policies and procedures in conjunction with the administrative staff.

Interviews and evaluates applicants for laboratory positions in conjunction with human resources.

Maintains personnel documentation in order to evaluate job performance: prepares performance evaluations; makes recommendations for salary increases; determines disciplinary action; if necessary, terminates employee.

Reviews laboratory procedure manual annually to ensure information is accurate and current.

Performs all aspects of laboratory procedures following safety guidelines and adhering to protocols in the NeoGenomics SOPM.

Adheres to all compliance and HIPAA regulations.

Other related duties as assigned.

 Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) and the equivalent of more than 8 years related experience and/or training.  Florida State license in hematology is required.

Qualification Requirements:

Ensures established productivity levels are maintained and departmental performance is within established parameters.

Ensures the timely completion of cases to assist in maintaining the company’s turnaround requirements

Ensures that performance and control measures are consistently within established limits to assure quality of all tasks

Supervise personnel to promote and develop a harmonious working environment and an effective and stable work group

Writes reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals

Presents information and responds to questions from groups of staff, managers and clients

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office-type applications

Certificate Compliance Requirements:

Nationally:     ASCP, NCA or AMT as a medical technologist

CA  Licensure in Hematology – Supervisor level
